EASTER !
It is now widely accepted that the word Easter comes from the Latin name for Easter week: “in albis”, meaning “in white”. Priests wear white during Easter to symbolise joy, purity and Christ’s victory over
death. White is also the brightest colour, signifying that Christ has brought light to the “justs” who were waiting in Hades. This is often symbolised in paintings where we see Jesus reaching out to Adam and Eve, drawing them out of the darkness of the tomb into the light of paradise.
Christ is risen, amazing as it may have seemed to his contemporaries. We now know that death is not the end, and that through Jesus the power of God has overcome human death and opened the way for us too to follow him to heaven.
“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with
me that you also may be where I am.” Jn 14: 2-3
Christ is risen, he is truly victorious, the light of love has triumphed over the darkness of sin – Alleluia!
