Reflection for Advent:

Advent is a time of waiting, of waiting with eager expectation. A time waiting for the coming of God in the world, in our lives. It is a time of waiting full of hope faith and trusting in God.
Our society has trained us to expect immediate gratification of our needs. Waiting is also an important experience, that allows us to refocus on what is meaningful, to let come up what we deeply desire.
During this advent, I would like to invite you to say one of these three prayers each day before dinner, if possible, together as a family.

A Prayer for Advent to be a time of simplicity
We pray that this Advent may be a time marked by simplicity, calmness and quietness as we wait in hope and wonder for Jesus who is present in our lives now and whose future reign is coming.

Advent Prayer by Henri Nouwen
Lord Jesus, Master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas.
We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day.
We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us.
We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom.
We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence.
We are your people,
walking in darkness,
yet seeking the light.
To you we say, “Come Lord Jesus!”

An Advent Prayer
Father, in the wilderness of the Jordan,
you sent a messenger to prepare people’s hearts
for the coming of your Son.
Help me to hear his words and repent of my sins,
so that I may clearly see the way to walk,
the truth to speak,
and the life to live for him,
Our Lord Jesus Christ.
AMEN.
