“She, from the little she had has put in everything she possessed, all she had to live on.” Mk 12,44

How Jesus’ heart must have been touched to see this woman’s faith! And also, been touched by her love for God that led her to give all she had. Her hope, too, must have been great.

Faith in God, hope in God, charity (love): these are the theological virtues. The widow in the Gospel understood that only in God is our true salvation. She gave up everything she had in an act of trust. In essence, she placed her life in the hands of God. When she later died, how do you think Jesus greeted her in heaven?

What the widow did is not unlike what Jesus himself did just before he breathed his last on the Cross: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.”

This week let us praise God for the generosity of Jesus who gave his life for us. Let us give thanks for all the generous people around us. Let us ask for the grace to have great trust in God and for the grace to do small or great actions that help us to place our lives in God’s hands.
