CONFIRMATION AT ST ANTONY'S

Preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation takes place every year. Please click here to view the registration information for Confirmation in 2024.

Young people who will be fourteen or above before the date of Confirmation are eligible to apply for the classes. Anyone over eighteen who would like to receive the sacrament of Confirmation should join the RCIA class for adults.

The sacrament of Confirmation is intended for those who are already living the graces of their baptism as practising Catholics. Young people joining the course will be expected to be regularly practising their faith, demonstrated at a minimum by attendance at Sunday Mass every week.

The Vatican’s document General Directory for Catechesis tells us that the aim of catechesis is to lead people to ‘communion and intimacy with Jesus Christ’ and goes on to explain that ‘Communion with Jesus Christ, by its own dynamic, leads the disciple to unite himself with everything with which Jesus Christ himself was profoundly united: with God his Father, who sent him into the world, and with the Holy Spirit, who impelled his mission; with the Church, his body, for which he gave himself up, with mankind and with his brothers whose lot he wished to share.’ This is the motivation behind our Confirmation preparation classes: we aim to strengthen the faith, hope, and love of each candidate for the Holy Trinity in both intellectual endeavour and prayer.
