7th Sunday of Easter – May 12th 2025
Our First reading this week is taken from the Acts of the Apostles 1:15-17,20-26: We must choose one of these to be a witness to his resurrection with us. The Psalm is from Psalm 102: The Lord has set his sway in heaven. Our Second Reading is 1 John 4:11-16: Anyone who lives in love lives in God and God lives in him. Our Gospel this Sunday is John 17:11-19: That they may be one like us.

Novena to the Holy Spirit
A novena is a specific prayer intention made for nine consecutive days. The practice has its origins in the nine days that the Apostles spent in prayer between Christ’s Ascension and the descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. When they entered the city they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter
and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. Acts 1:13-14

Praying each day during the time between the Ascension and Pentecost is a wonderful and powerful way of invoking and imploring the Holy Spirit upon our world, parish, family and upon our hearts.

Come Holy Spirit!

Daily 9-Day Novena Prayer between the Ascension and Pentecost
Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending into heaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth, the Spirit on Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints, the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord with the sign of Your true disciples, and animate me in all things with Your Spirit. Amen.
